Knowing God (2) Psalm 9:10 “Those who know your name will trust in you, for you, Lord, have never forsaken those who seek you” NIV Bible
Extra Reading: Psalm 9:1-10
One great man of God, who has been called home, once told me that the nature of knowing God is knowing Him through His character. This is a profound statement I have ever heard. I was thinking that this great man of God might have had Deuteronomy 7:9 in mind, “Know therefore that the Lord your God is God; he is the faithful God, keeping his covenant of love to a thousand generations of those who love him and keep his commands”. It is good to know that we serve a mighty God who is faithful and also loves us. To know Jesus Christ is to know God. Jesus comforted His disciples one day and said in John 14: 6 states, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No-one comes to the Father except through me”.
You will recall that knowing God has a transforming effect on a person spiritually and morally and makes that person bold in actions for God. Not knowing God in the present will result in dissatisfaction and degeneration into wickedness and in the future will bring eternal alienation from him. When we know God we are spiritually transformed from death to life. Paul said this to Colossian believers, “For this reason, since the day we heard about you, we have not stopped praying for you and asking God to fill you with the knowledge of his will through all spiritual wisdom and understanding” (Colossians 1:9). When we know God we experience moral transformation from evil to good (Romans 16:26).God disciplines His children like a parent (Hebrew 12:6). Do you know God? If not, why?
Prayer: Heavenly Father, help us to know you personally and trust you. In Jesus Christ’s name we pray, Amen.
