Knowing God (1)                  Job 12:13 “To God belongs wisdom and power; counsel and understanding are his”.  NIV Bible   Extra Reading: Job 12: 1-16

Many people ask preachers and evangelists this question: “How do I know God?” Only Scripture can give us the best t explanation or answer. Knowing God has a lot to do with a faith-relationship and love-relationship with God involving mind, heart and will, and bringing experience of His presence and power. To know God is to worship Him and be transformed by Him. Human knowledge of God, which begins with knowledge about Him, comes through God’s self-revelation.  Jesus Christ praises the Father for the revelation the disciples receive (Luke 10:21-22).  God gives knowledge of Himself through Jesus Christ. Jesus says “All things have been committed to me by my Father. No one knows the Son except the Father, and no one knows the Father except the Son and those to whom the Son chooses to reveal him” (Matthew 11:27). NIV Bible. The apostle John also supports this truth by saying, “Dear friends, now we are children of God, and what we will be has not yet been made known. But we know that when he appears, we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is” (1 John 3:2).

One that has been revealed to God’s children is that God gives knowledge of Himself and His ways through the Spirit. The prophet Isaiah has this to say about the Lord, “The Spirit of the Lord will rest on him-the Spirit of wisdom and of understanding, the Spirit of counsel and of power, the Spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the Lord” (Isaiah 11:2). Dear friend, this is how God reveals Himself to us and we need to accept and be satisfied. Paul also says this to Ephesian believers, “I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know him better” (Ephesians 1:17). Paul’s prayer is so relevant for our day, where people believe in philosophies, gods, ancestral spirits, false religions and psychologies, and have ignored the true and the living God only known through our Lord Jesus Christ. Do you know Jesus Christ as your Lord and Saviour?

Prayer: Father God, help us to know You through Jesus Christ, and no one else. In Jesus Christ’s name, we pray, Amen.Rev. Samuel N. Modise
