Knowing that God really loves me

John 3:16 “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life”. NIV Bible

Extra Reading: John 3:1-16

God has committed Himself from the beginning to love His creation, the people he made in His image.  We often hear other people say that God is love. It is so true! It is really not easy to define love because our words are not adequate. Please know today that God loves you very much (Deut. 23:5). God says to Jeremiah, “I loved you with an everlasting love (Jeremiah 31:3). God loves the unlovable (Romans 9:25). We are expected to love God with all our hearts, mind, bodies, and souls, which mean that God must have first place in our lives. Our love for God, enemies and neighbours must be more easily demonstrated than defined.   Love is the greatest thing in the world. The Bible also teaches that the Lord loves the righteous (Psalm 146:8). Let us understand that God’s love is not just blind to our faults. The Bible says, “He whom the Lord loves He reproves (Proverbs 3:12). Also, He who the Lord loves he disciplines (Hebrews 12:6). The writer of the Book of Jude 21 says, “Keep yourselves in the love of God”. This means that if we deviate from it, we will remain with worldly love which limited and always finds a multitude of faults.

The Bible also teaches that God loved Israel very much. “The Lord loved Israel forever (I Kings 10:9). He continues, “When Israel was a child I loved him” (Hosea 11:1). The Lord did not love Israel because of their numbers but with a committed love (Deut. 7:7). The Word of God also teaches that God loved Solomon very much (2 Samuel 12:24; Nehemiah 13:26). Jesus also loved Martha, Mary and Lazarus (John 11:5). Are you still not convinced that God loves you? Jesus once said, “As the Father loved me, so have I love you (John 15:9). Jesus proved that He loves us by laying down His life for us. Who could do that if not Jesus Christ? The gift of His Son, Jesus Christ, is God’s ultimate expression of His love for us. Though He gives many other blessings, He can give no greater gift.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, we are amazed at how much you loved us. You gave your only Son, Jesus Christ, to die for us. Thank you so much for that. In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen!
