Praying for our lost loved ones-Part 2

Ephesians 2:8-9 “I mean that you have been saved by grace through believing. You did not save yourselves: It was a gift from God. It was not the result of your own work, so you cannot boast about it.” Youth Bible

Extra Reading: Ephesians 2:1-10.

A businessman wants to take to heaven as many people as he can. How many people have you planned to take along heavenwards? This is a serious question that you need to ponder. Soul winning is an activity that is very close to God’s heart. When you take soul winning seriously, you please God because He never planned that anyone should perish and end up in hell. God uses ordinary folks like you and me to tell others about salvation only found in Jesus Christ. We need to invest lots of hours in praying for our loved ones to come into full knowledge of Jesus Christ. This leads us to answer the question: “How do we pray for the lost loved ones?” I strongly believe that we must ask God to bring revelation to the unbeliever. The hearing of the gospel must be accompanied by prayer. This must be intense prayer. I suggest that we pray in the following way for lost loved ones:

+ Pray that the person’s heart be prepared, so it that it will be “good soil” for the seed of the gospel (Mark 4:8).

+ Pray that Satan is not able to steal the seeds of truth (see Mark 4:15), and that nothing else will be able to destroy the seeds (see mark 4:16-19).

+ Pray that the Word becomes revelation through the lifting of the veil (see 2 Cor. 4:3, 4). Use in your prayer Ephesians 1:17 “That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give you a spirit of wisdom and of revelation in the knowledge of Him.”

+ Pray that the root of pride in them be broken (see 2 Cor. 10:3-5).

+ Pray that the person comes to true repentance (see 2 Peter 3:9). 2 Timothy 2: 25-26 is a wonderful passage to pray over the individual in this regard: “God may grant them repentance leading to the knowledge of the truth, and they may come to their senses and escape from the snare of the devil, having been held captive by him to do his will.”

Remember that biblical repentance will produce God-centred Christians. Paul said in Acts 26:18 he was called “to open their eyes”-he talks about enlightenment, unveiling, revelation, and repentance-so that they may turn from darkness to light. Please do know that our prayers play a great part in the lifting of the veil. Pray for lost people or your unsaved relatives that they would be able to see the truth of the gospel. Bind the spirit of rebellion and pride that was controlling them and ask God to soften their hearts so that they might be drawn to Him. I want to join you as we together trust God for the salvation of people you love. God loves them very much too.

Prayer: Father God, burden our hearts to pray seriously with commitment, for the salvation of the lost. In Jesus Christ’s name we pray. Amen!
