Praying in times of illness

Psalm 103: 2-3 “Praise the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits-who forgives all your sins and heals all your diseases” NIV Bible

Extra Reading: Psalm 103: 1-9

No one wants to fall ill. That is why we find our gymnasiums always full of people, exercising their bodies to keep healthy. I believe sickness does not have anything to do with sickness. There are times in our lives when God uses sickness to achieve his own purposes in our lives (John 9). When a person gets sick, it always wise to know what is the cause of sickness. The most reliable person to help you get to the root of sickness is the medical doctor. People think that when they go to the doctor God is not involved in the healing. I strongly believe that God has been involved in the development of medical science, and he can use medicine and doctors to heal people. He uses people to bless other people. Sometimes sickness is caused by a demonic attack. This can be resisted in the name of Jesus. God, at times, allow sickness in our bodies to purify us. People pray realistic prayers for healing when they are sick. I have discovered from the Book of James 5:16 that it links confession of sin to healing, “Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective”.

The Holy Spirit provides wisdom and guidance when we pray for other people’s healing. One other name of God is Yahweh-Ropheka which means ‘The Lord who heals you’. Live a life of holiness before the eyes of God. Live in obedience and consecration to God. Moses taught the Israelites and said, “Worship the Lord your God, and his blessing will be on your food and water. I will take away sickness from among you” (Exodus 23:25) NIV Bible. The psalmist says, “He heals the broken-hearted and binds up their wounds” (Psalm 147:3) NIV Bible. Let’s cry unto the Lord when we are not feeling well. He has the ability and potential to heal our bodies and our spirits. Do you trust God for your healing today?

Prayer:  Lord Jesus, I trust you for my healing today. Touch me and heal me. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
