Reaching one’s goal       Proverbs 3:6 “In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight”     Extra Reading: Proverbs 3:1-10

When I started my final matriculation class, I heard most of my classmates talk of how they are hungry for success in life, after passing their examinations. Some talked of becoming medical doctors, attorneys, accountants, architects, nurses, and commercial pilots. Others dreamt of becoming proficient in their field, making lots of money, and having youngsters look up to them as mentors and coaches. I never mentioned to anyone what I wanted to be beyond my high school days.  It was not a matter of being ambitionless. I knew deep down my heart that God is preparing me for something fulfilling in future.

Too many people in this world see success as the accumulation of material things. Then there are those who equate success with having a happy family: a loving wife or husband and obedient children. To others success is having a long life, free from disease and heartache. Everyone has a dream of success. The Bible says that if you “take delight in the Lord, and He will give you your heart’s desires” (Psalm 37:4). I think many people do no succeed because they have a wrong idea of what success is. It is possible that they have not listened to God’s conditions for success. The first condition is “to take delight in the Lord.” In other words, put God first.

Jesus once said the same thing to His disciples about success, “But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well” (Matthew 6:33) NIV Bible. Please seek God’s best for your life. Maybe in your eagerness to find success, you’ve listened to someone who offered you an easy way, and you have settled for wrong goals to reach success. God is there to help you.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, help us to seek you first today. May we find you through Jesus Christ. In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.
