We need God’s guidance
Psalm 32:8 “I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go. I will counsel you and watch over you”
Extra Reading: Psalm 32:1-11
This is a powerful promise from a loving and caring God. When a child is still small, he needs the guidance of his parents. Otherwise, he will lose the right way. We need guidance because we make lots of decisions in life. We face decisions about our careers, relationships, where we need to stay, and the church we need to attend. Some of these are very big decisions; some are smaller. We need God’s help to make the right decisions daily. Walking closely with God will help us receive guidance from Him on time. We won’t make mistakes that we will regret. Jesus promises to lead and guide His followers. “He calls His own sheep by name and leads them out…His sheep follow him because they know his voice” (John 10:3-4).He longs for us to know his will (Colossians 1:9). God desires to speak to us regarding common daily experiences. God loves us and want the very best for us. He has a plan for our lives. Jesus was consistently led by the Holy Spirit. We need to be led and guided by Him.
God guides us when we are prepared to do His will rather than insisting that our own way is right. The psalmist says, “He guides the humble” (Psalm 25:9). God guides those who are humble and are prepared to do whatever He wants them to do. I like the hymn, ‘Guide me, O thou great Jehovah’. Each time the pianist started it for us at Bible College, tears will roll down my cheeks. It reminded me that I cannot go on in life without God’s guidance. Otherwise I will miss the right way, which is God’s way. We make mistakes because we fail to consult the Lord. God guides us through His Word in the Bible. Psalm 37:5 stresses the importance of trusting in God for guidance. Sometimes a verse seems to leap out of the page at us and we sense God speaking to us through it. God used Luke 10:2 to call me into full-time ministry. I was an insurance salesman at that time. I had to tender my resignation with our Regional Manager and off I went to Bible College for training as a minister. God showed me multitudes of people dying every day without knowing Christ as Lord and Saviour. I just said, “Yes, Lord, am willing to go for you.” Peace filled my heart from that moment. I knew I took the right decision.
Prayer: Lord Jesus, without your guidance we are lost. Help us find the way. Amen.
